Aggie Nyagari
Aggie Nyagari-Salt is a film and TV director, producer and editor known for the comedy/crime thriller ‘Janjaruka’ which tackles the subject matter of living with con and corruption in Nairobi, Kenya. The series was released on YouTube to public audiences in August 2019 and the channel has since grown to have millions of views overall withlive audience engagement throughout its 17 week run.
Aggie also directed the award-winning feature film ‘Lisilojulikana, (2015) which won the Dodie Spittal award at the Picture This Film Festival in Calgary, Canada. The film tackles the taboo subject of living with a physical disability in a society that believes it to be a curse. The film has since been translated into several languages including Chichewa to widen its audiences across African countries.
Aggie has also produced and directed short films including ‘Squeaky Bike’ (2016) and ‘Vacant’ (2023) both filmed in Bristol, UK, and the Sci-Fi short ‘Wormhole’ (2022) that was filmed remotely during the pandemic between Bristol (UK), Nairobi (Kenya) and Thessaloniki (Greece).
Aggie is passionate about telling compelling, thought-provoking stories with relatable characters, inspired by real events and social issues to try and make sense of the world around us by challenging, expressing, reflecting and entertaining using the powerful tool that is Film.
