Nick Gaven

I’m a Camera operator, drone pilot and assistant with 8+ years of experience in the industry. I’ve worked for TV and SVOD broadcasters such as BBC, SKY, Netflix, Apple and Nat Geo, as well as for various drama and branded clients such as Aardman, Warner Bros Superdry, Louis Vuitton, Intel, Pukka and BFI. I specialise in documentary formats but enjoy working, and have experience, across a range of genres. I’m a confident, friendly person, priding myself on my excellent communication, relationship building skills, tireless work ethic and being able to quickly integrate into any team, big or small.

I’ve shot camera and drone for a number of high-end TV shows as well as across a range of different formats and am comfortable shooting run-and-gun as well as in more structured environments. I’ve also DOP’d a number of films, promos and corporate shoots so am proficient in skills from lighting to cross shooting to gimbaling (and everything in between).

Having worked as a camera technician for 4 years, I am able to work with any camera system; I have extensive knowledge of lenses, gimbals, lighting, wireless systems and grip, and I’m great at troubleshooting and fixing technical problems. Being an experienced shooter means that in AC roles, I have a strong awareness of exactly how to support DOPs and operators in order for them to produce their best work. I’ve also previously worked in editorial and post production roles and so have a good understanding of the whole production process.

I’m experienced working internationally and domestically; often working in challenging, sensitive or high-pressure environments. I hold 2 passports for VISA purposes and am well versed in getting large amounts of kit through customs.

I own a C300 MK2, DJI Mavic 3 Pro Cine, Timelapse Kit, data wrangling kit, extensive AC kit and a high-end monitor for focus and operator work.
